It's been a week since I joined my new organization, and honestly, I am not at all impressed in the way things are going here.
First of all, people don't get a computer if they're not alloted to a specific project. I've BEEN alloted to a project, but I still don't have a computer. The whole of my last week was spent doing permutations or combinations of the following:
1. Sitting idle staring at someone else's computer screen (the "other" person got annoyed at me starring at his screen and asked me to leave. Obviously ... I'd have done the same if I were in his shoes!)
2. Sitting in a library (oh btw at this library - You only get yesterday's newspapers. If you want today's newspapers - simple - come tomorrow! Also, you're not allowed to talk inside the library. And, since I am talkative person, I ignored that. End result - the librarian threw me out!)
3. Sitting on the sofas in the reception area.
4. Coffee Breaks.
5. Lunch Breaks.
The weirdest part of the whole deal is the way the organization is run. It is run like a Government Organization. Red-tape'ism is at its peak here! I mean - for crying out loud - this is supposed to be a private organization. But, the people here behave otherwise.
The next big shocker - You need to address people as "Sir" and "Madam" if you hope to get any work done out of them. Seriously. This, by far, is the biggest culture shock to me!!!
Even to this day - I remember the first project manager I ever worked under (a nice gentleman called Sridhar) reprimanded me for addressing him as Sir. And today, I have to address every Tom Dick and Harry in the admin department as Sirs and Madams, just to get a Form Signed or a Vehicle Gate Pass Issued. I shun to think what I will have to do when I need assistance in matters much more serious than this!
Resource Crunch ... Space Crunch ... Facilities Crunch ... I could list another 10 items - But, you get the general idea don't you!
Heck ... I'm toooooooo upset to even talk about the rest of the findings. I give up. I don't care anymore ... I think I'll just go to sleep!!!
Good Night Friends ...
